Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat

Salman Butt has taken the brave decision to put his brittle batting line-up into the firing line straight away at Edgbaston after winning the toss on a cloudy morning. As revealed yesterday evening Mohammad Yousuf doesn't make the starting XI after his dash from Pakistan while Kamran Akmal has been dropped.

England, meanwhile, have had far fewer concerns and as expected have named an unchanged team with Andrew Strauss not overly worried about bowling first. He expects some help for his in-form pace attack - including James Anderson playing his 50th Test - on a ground where England have often excelled, although there will be less support than normal as half the venue is currently a building site.

The build-up to this Test has been dominated by the will-he, won't-he guessing game surrounding Yousuf's hasty call-up to the squad. In the end he didn't feel ready to come straight into a Test so Pakistan's batting line-up contains the same personnel as last week although they have juggled the order with Shoaib Malik moving to No. 4.

Sri Lanka Dismissed for 425 in First Innings!

Thilan Samaraweera was unshakeable amid testing spells from Ishant Sharma and Pragyan Ojha to help Sri Lanka consolidate the dominant position they had reached on the opening day. India needed some quick wickets to give themselves a chance on a more competitive pitch, but were denied by a solid performance that took Samaraweera to his 12th Test century.

Samaraweera's innings displayed an excellent grasp of the pitch that aided movement as well as turn. He played the ball late, spotted the lengths early and, against the spinners, was adept in his footwork and confident in defence, rarely failing to pick their variations or gauge the extent of turn. And he was opportunistic, dispatching those deliveries that were pitched short. He began with a slash over gully off a wayward Abhimanyu Mithun that just evaded Virender Sehwag, and pulled him again to fine leg. He struck his fifth four off Amit Mishra when gifted a long-hop, punched Ojha through the covers and reached his century with a nudge to the leg side. The comfort with which he batted was a contrast to the struggles of his partners.

Unpredictable Anderson finds his birthday best

The second day at Trent Bridge was James Anderson's 28th birthday, and it began for him in a somewhat lugubrious fashion. Before the start of play he was serenaded by his tuneless team-mates and presented with a cupcake by two of the press photographers, a pair of gestures that left him more bemused than touched. His mood had not improved by the time Mohammad Asif pinned him lbw for a first-ball duck - his second in four home Tests and, after a memorable run of 54 duckless innings from his debut in 2003, his third blob in the space of 11 months.

Score card of India in Sri Lanka Test Series - 2nd Test!

Teams play out high-scoring draw

The second Test laboured to its predictable end but not without some encouraging signs for India on the final day. The tenth-wicket pair of Ishant Sharma and Pragyan Ojha, who had offered resistance in Galle, repeated the feat with more ease and kept the Sri Lankan bowlers at bay for 27.1 overs before the Indian bowlers, who have been dominated in this series, took three wickets, auguring well for the final Test at the P Sara Stadium.

The start to the Sri Lankan second innings, however, gave little indication that India's bowlers would do better. The seamers often dropped short and Tharanga Paranavitana promptly slashed both Abhimanyu Mithun and Ishant Sharma for boundaries through point. He also cashed in when the ball was pitched up, driving Ishant confidently down the ground. Mithun got a bit of movement with the new ball and beat Paranavitana on a couple of occasions, but it was a short delivery that earned him a breakthrough as Tillakaratne Dilshan mistimed a pull to midwicket. On the first day, the pitch looked flat, the bowling insipid and the Sri Lankan batsmen were queuing up to have a go at the Indians. Everything changed today. Yesterday's storms and overnight rains had left a damp and seaming pitch and the Indians were on song today. After a long time Ishant Sharma looked threatening as a bowler. It was that kind of a morning. Unexpected things happened. The ball talked. The Indians smiled. And Ishant roared. However, it wasn't all gloom for Sri Lanka. Angelo Mathews sparkled with a lovely cameo and Sri Lanka moved past 350 which can be a daunting total in these conditions.

Live Score card of 2nd Ipl match between Mumbai Indians v Rajasthan Royals!

Ambati Rayudu, considered unlucky to have not played for India yet, combined with Jharkhand youngster Saurabh Tiwary to help Mumbai Indians recover from a triple-strike in the first third of the innings, and took the hosts to an imposing total, their highest. Rayudu and Tiwary added 110 runs in 63 balls, making light of the loss of Sanath Jayasuriya, Sachin Tendulkar and young wicketkeeper Aditya Tare in three overs after a flier from the top order took them to 70 in 6.3.

Shane Warne didn't have to wait too long to find out if Tendulkar "will open and face [Shaun] Tait. Or drop himself down order and let others take on Tait". It was actually Warne who made Mumbai wait, by giving the first over to Dimitri Mascarenhas. Jayasuriya tucked into gentle-paced length bowling, and Tendulkar took Tait apart. Off the four balls that Tait bowled to Tendulkar, 10 runs came, included two flicked boundaries. His four overs would go for 46 runs.
